iPad/Android and iPhone internet share/hotspot stop working/timeout.

  • When you hotspot/share your iPhone's internet with your iPad all goes well. But as soon as the screen turns off, the iPad don't download anything, or time flies, the cell phone will stop the internet sharing/hotspot. Until you go the the internet share/hotspot screen again.
Do this:
  • On your iPad:
    1. Cell Data = OFF (Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data)
    2. Wifi = OFF
    3. Bluetooth = ON
  • On your iPhone: (in this order)
    1. Cell Data = ON
    2. Bluetooth = ON
    3. Personal hotspot = ON
    4. Wifi = OFF
    5. Go to the Bluetooth settings, this makes your Bluetooth visible for others.
  • On your iPad (again):
    1. Go to Bluetooth settings.
    2. Connect to your iPhone. (a popup window will show on your iPhone now.)
  • On your iPhone:
    1. Click allow connection.
  • Done :-)

Always make a cloud backup.

  • External driver are a good place to save your stuff. But you do not always have it with you. What if there is a fire or a break in.. I always have a cloned copy of the external hard drive online. In the cloud.
Do this:
  1. Get Google Drive or use one you have. Microsoft is giving away 25 GB of free.
    Google drive: http://www.google.com/drive/download/
    One Drive: https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/download/
  2. Open notepad and put this text in it: (See Image)
    Text: Link to text
    Download: Link to file
  3. Make sure the External drive path and the cloud path is right.
  4. Save it on your external drive and with the filename "Cloud Backup.bat".
  5. Open a file explorer window. (Hold Windows Key and press E)
  6. Find your auto start folder:
Windows 8 users follow this guide
  7. Open a new file explorer window. (Hold Windows Key and press E)
  8. Open your external drive.
  9. Hold the RIGHT mouse button over the "Cloud Backup.bat" file and drag it to the autostart folder. (See Image)
  10. Every time you reboot your computer a backup will be made on your cloud drive.

Always save your stuff on an external drive.

  • I always save my documents and projects on an external drive. So if your computer crashes, everything is saved.
Do this:
  1. Buy an external hard drive. (See Image)
  2. When you save something. Always choose your new drive. (See Image)

Faster computer or more secure computer?

I hear this all the time. "My computer is slow." "Ok, do you want a fast and more secure computer, you can not have both."

Do this:

  1. Turn off automatic updates.
Control Panel > Windows Update > Change settings
  2. You have 4 choices. But do not choose the first thing that is "recomended". I personally have the last one "Is not recomended." I want to Update when I have a problem otherwise never.
  3. Uninstall all "Security Updates" (See Image)
Control Panel > Programs and settings > Show updates
(OBS if you want to install Windows 8.1 dont uninstall the security updates that got KBxxxxx80-89 numbers, you need them.)
  4. You might have 190 Updates so it takes a few hours. But afterwards, the computer goes faster. (When you are about to uninstall and it asks you to reboot, do not. Reboot when finished.)

Close an app in Windows 8.

Try this:
  1. Move the mouse to the top left corner so the menu appears.
  2. Right-click on it to close.
Or do it like a pro windows 8er:

  1. Move the mouse to the top left corner so the menu appears.
  2. Hold the left mouse button on the one you want to close.
  3. Drag it to the bottom of the screen. (See image)
  4. Release the mouse button.

My app store in Windows 8 has not the Windows 8.1 update.

  • If you do not have automatic Updates on your computer you get this problem.
Do this:
Control panel > Windows update > Search for updates
When search is done do this:
  1. Click "Important updates". (See Image)
  2. Click the "Box" near "Names" so all becomes unchecked.
  3. Check all the KBxxxxx80 to KBxxxxx89. (See Image)
  4. Click "Install".
  5. After install you should see the "Windows 8.1 Update" in your store app. (If not reboot and start over. You will get more KBxxxxx80-89 updates after you reboot.)

Why Windows mail app wont work in Windows 8.

  • There are some serious bugs in the built-in email program in Windows 8. However download Windows 8.1 they usually they disappear.

Where is the Autostart folder in windows 8

C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

  1. Copy this text to your file explorer:
    C:\Users
  2. Double click your name.
  3. Copy this text after your name and press enter:
    \AppData
  4. Locate:
    Roaming
    Microsoft
    Windows
    Start MenuProgramsStartup
